Christ Inspired having been awarded funding to run it's innovative ASPIRE tutoring programme thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund.
The projet which will commence in April, aims to support young people in the BME group to build their confidence in academics and support them to achieve better grades.
Against the backdrop of recent knife and gang crime activity, this comes at a crucial time, to help support the community to build brighter futures for young people.
After interviewing many young people, a re-occuring solution was mentioned; that if there was more support, they would do better.
Maybel A, a trustee of the charity and a qualified teacher said, "We begun this project in 2015 and run a short self funded half term classes with just 15 young people who were preparing for their GCSEs. We quickly discovered that they were in need of 1-2-1 tutoring support and continious encouragement to boost their self-esteem and confidence in their academics. These young people have now been able to surpass predicted grades and are attending university. We believe that a larger scale program will help more young people to also aspire for better futures".
The program will focus on tutoring in the 3 core subjects that is vitals for future prospects; Maths, English and Science, with a place for up to 50 students.
There is already a high level of interest and demand from young people, church leaders and parents.
